Best PracticesThe advantage of operating three mills affords us the opportunity to capitalize on the unique expertise at each mill. By measuring each mill's performance in key areas, we are able to identify areas that each mill is excelling at and apply those best practices to the other mills.
One of the best examples of this sharing of best practices is illustrated in the World Class Safety initiatives, which involves management, union representatives, and all levels of employees.
The Celgar mill embarked on this ambitious program to meet World Class Safety standards in 2005. Celgar recognizes this is an evolving process that will take years to fully achieve. All mill employees actively participated in workshops aimed at reducing the number of recordable safety incidents and developing a philosophy of safe work practices. Successes have included Competency Based Training project which resulted in job training workbooks, new hire training and the physiotherapy program, just to name a few.
